Mrs. Shavonna Coakley
Greetings Chicora School of Communications Students, Parents, and Community Partners! It is my hope that your summer has been a fun-filled one with many exciting experiences to share with family and friends. I am writing this letter to officially introduce myself to you as the newly appointed principal of Chicora School of Communications…..Where We Use Technology and the Arts! Having been afforded the opportunity to serve as the instructional leader and advocate for the students, teachers and parents of Chicora is an absolute pleasure and I pledge to give my very best at every available opportunity!
I have 13 years of teaching and administrative experience. This includes nine years as a classroom teacher in grades 3, 5, and 6! I have spent the last 4 years serving as an Assistant Principal with the Charleston County School District! My recent administrative role in CCSD has been to serve as the Assistant Principal for Chicora. For those who have been with Chicora, you understand if I were to list everything I did, we would be here reading for a while. So, let me say, I am delighted to continue with my professional growth and development as your principal. I believe the opportunities that await us are designed to improve instruction and student outcomes.
As the instructional leader of Chicora, I will continuously embrace the visions of the Charleston County School District and the belief that all students can be successful. My number one goal is to ensure that all learners are provided a high quality education in a safe and nurturing environment that will produce college and career-ready citizens in our global and ever-changing society. To achieve this goal, we will partner with our greatest partners; the parents and the community, to ensure the academic and social success of all our students. My leadership philosophy is centered on my belief that every child deserves the opportunity to be educated by a highly qualified staff that values their diversity and one that goes beyond the expected measures to ensure that the individual needs of all students are met. I also believe that every child, teacher, staff member, and parent should be treated with the utmost respect at all times.
I am looking forward to a successful school year in which you and I will ensure that our students are provided an enriched learning environment where the Common Core Curriculum Standards serve as the catalyst for our students’ academic success. Student achievement data will serve as the road map for creating lessons and activities that are engaging and developmentally appropriate across the grade levels. The creation of a learning environment that is conducive to student’s academic and social success is imperative for our school. The bottom line for Chicora is “Failure is Not an Option”! We must believe this in everything we do for children every day!
In closing, I am excited about greeting you to another school year and seeing the faces of the many students we serve at Chicora. I encourage you to be an active and engaged student, parent, and community member for Chicora. As you close the reading of this welcome letter, Please join me in embracing our school’s motto by repeating, “Believe & Achieve……While Striving for Excellence”.
